In 2007-08 JA programs touched the lives of over 4 million students in the United States and 2.6 million additional students around the globe.  Over 213,000 volunteers from communities around the world delivered JA programs in more than 285,000 classrooms in 97 countries

Over the past 86 years, JA has relied on our investors to help fulfill its mission of educating and inspiring young people. The curricula developed by JA teach students to value free enterprise, business, and economics, thereby improving the quality of their lives and ensuring workforce readiness. The impact is unparalleled.

Locally in the 2007-08 school year Junior Achievement of the Inland Northwest reached our goal in terms of revenue generated, volunteers involved and students reached.  Over 400 volunteers strived to make a difference in over 10,000 student lives through Spokane, Coeur d'Alene and the surrounding communities.  Our goals could not be reached without the support of local businesses, community leaders, and investors.

Six sequential themes, each with five hands-on activities, work to change students' lives by helping them understand business and economics.

Programs including Ourselves, Our Families, Our Community, Our City, Our Region and Our Nation teach students valuable skills and tools they will need later in life. Students learn about the roles members of communities play, the economy, and how businesses operate.

Students also learn personal skills like how to save, the differences between wants and needs, and how to interview for jobs. These programs prepare students for life outside the classroom, and teach them what it is to be a member of society.

Junior Achievement programs include economics and business curricula for sixth, seventh, and eight grade students.
JA Economics for Success explores personal finance and students' education and career options based on their skill, interests, and values.
JA America Works educates students about the role entrepreneurship played in the history of the United States, by focusing on key elements of American business and economic development.
JA Global Marketplace provides practical information about the global economy and its effect on students' lives.
JA It's My Business! Teaches middle grades students entrepreneurial skills through innovative activities that focus on filling a need, knowing your customer and product, being creative and innovative, and believing in yourself.

Junior Achievement's high school programs are economic and business curricula for students in grades 9-12 and include an after-school student-led enterprise and a one-day workplace capstone experience. Students who participate use higher levels of thinking to synthesize and integrate information and are better then traditional students in taking on leadership roles.

JA high school programs include:
JA Economics examines the fundamental concepts of micro-, macro-, and international economics.
JA Success Skills develops students' interpersonal effectiveness and problem-solving skills necessary for the workplace
JA Titan introduces critical economics and management decisions through an interactive Web-based simulation.
JA Job Shadow introduces students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations in the work-place. It is an academically motivating event which gives students an in-depth look into possible careers. Students are placed with a mentor and follow him or her throughout the day. This program gives students the opportunity to see how skills they learn in the classroom relate to the workplace.
JA works! Studies have shown that JA programs do make a difference in the lives of students. Compared to students without the JA experience, JA students demonstrate significantly more critical thinking and job interviewing skills, they outperform their peers on objective-referenced tests (see graph), and they show more positive attitudes and greater career aspirations. JA high school students are more likely to attend college, take more responsibility for their behavior, and have a more positive self-concept and higher self esteem.
